ESPN - Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice was arrested for an alleged “very minor physical altercation” with his fiancee Janay Palmer. Both were arrested at Revel Nightclub in Atlantic City, New Yersey on the boardwalk and charged with simple assault domestic violence.
Rice’s lawyer, Andrew Alperstein, also said the two were arrested around 2 AM this morning, February 16, 2014. Both Rice and Palmer were released on their own recognizance with no bail.
Baltimore Ravens director of public relations Chad Steele claimed “We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained.”
Ray Rice has hired another lawyer Michael Diamondstein who says he hasn’t seen any official charges and thinks it will be little more than a misunderstanding.
The 21-year old veteran NFL running back who signed a 5-year, $35 million dollar deal with the Ravens in July of 2012 doesn’t need this for his career right now.
Maybe Ray Rice’s career is over. Even though he won a Super Bowl in 2013 Rice missed the playoffs for the first time and only gained 660 yards this year.
His team’s owner Stephen J. Bisciotti (Steve), refuses to spend money on good, albeit some older, football players like Anquan Boldin, Bernard Pollard, Dannell Elerbe, Elvis Dumervil, and Ed Reed off the heels of a championship.
And running backs in the NFL have a short career so there shouldn’t be much disappointment.
I can picture Ray Rice thinking why the hell did my girl bring me to this damn club.
There is no need to be spending thousands of dollars poppin bottles in a weak ass club when my career is nearly over, let’s get the f*ck out of here.
And before you know it things get out of hand.
The charges will probably be dismissed on the poor guy but damn having a potential domestic violence altercation can be detrimental to his next contract.
